Why Friday Forecasts Slip
The pipeline review at 3pm Friday produces a smaller number than Monday's. Friday is what reps believe. Monday is what they hope.

Run the pipeline review at 3 p.m. on Friday and you get one number. Run it at 9 a.m. on Monday and you get a bigger one. Same reps, same deals, same quarter. The Friday number is what the reps believe. The Monday number is what they hope.
The cadence shapes the data. It is not noise. The meeting catches the reps at two different points in the week.
Monday morning, the rep has not worked the week yet. The deals in commit feel solid because no one has had the call that reveals one of them slipped. The forecast is the rep's intention for the week, and intention runs optimistic. The Monday review collects intention and files it as a forecast.
Friday afternoon, the rep has worked the week. The procurement call that went sideways has happened. The champion who went quiet has been pinged twice. The deal that looked solid on Monday now needs another month. The Friday forecast is the residue of five days of real data. The rep is briefly honest, because the week is over and outcome has replaced intention.
Move the review to Friday and the number tightens within two quarters. The reps don't change. The data they filter through changes. This is the same failure I described in why a forecast is a promise, not a prediction: the meeting keeps asking for a commitment at the moment the commitment is least tested.
Most companies run the review on Monday because Monday feels like the start. That framing is backwards. Forecasting is not planning. It is reporting on commitments already made and tested. The testing happens between Monday and Friday. The report should come after the testing is done, which is the point buried in the forecast number nobody would bet on.
The change costs nothing. No tooling. No headcount. Move the review to Friday at 3 p.m. and watch variance to actual shrink. The reps will be uncomfortable for two weeks, because the new slot catches them after the week has graded them. By the third quarter the pipeline reads truer.
The number you report on Monday is the number you wish you had. The number on Friday is the one you have.
